Welcome to our version of living the dream
Some people dream of a glass-and-steel penthouse apartment in New York. Others want a hammock by a beach in Vanuatu. Or they fantasise about an unfettered life on the road in a customised van.
But for us, it's this: the wild and splendid 25-hectare property in the Nelson Lakes where we've been living and working since 2011.
We raise Highland cattle and Wiltshire sheep. We grow saffron. And every day we marvel at the spectacular views that can only be seen from one place—ours.
All dreams come at a price, however. We get snow in summer and frosts all year round. We wage war against rabbits. Sandflies wage war against us.
But it's worth it, because it's real. And being real is important to us. We don't do "slick". We do warmth, honesty, integrity and evenings out on the verandah with a good red. We love music, laughing, great food.
And we love helping other people and their businesses flourish so they can live their own dreams, whatever form those may take.
The birth of Bold
Bold Communications was born out of the realisation that we needed to better integrate our little farm with our working lives. If there's one thing we've learnt from our travels and adventures, it’s that there’s no such thing as a work/life balance. It’s all life.
We couldn't see the point in trying to keep the different elements separate. Our farm and our business feed us. We feed them and each other. It's that great "circle of life" stuff.
So why not celebrate it!
A truly digital company, we make the most of technology to work from home as much as possible to keep our carbon footprint down. And all that peace and quiet makes us productive as hell!

Niki: Creative genius
Niki hails from Christchurch. A former New Zealand champion dancer, she still occasionally struts her stuff in the kitchen.
Niki's always been a writer. She discovered blogging long before it became a thing and took to it like a duck to another duck. Her humour blog, Hot Water, was nominated Best Australian Weblog for three consecutive years. This somehow led to a job as a radio presenter with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, which was creatively satisfying and a hell of a lot of fun.
After returning to New Zealand in 2011, Niki freelanced as a copywriter, content marketer and journalist. She's also a qualified photographer.
Niki loves the creative process. Her mission is to inspire other people to love it too so they can use it to enrich their lives and help their businesses prosper.
Ewan: Technical wizard
Ewan grew up in Scotland. He holds a Masters degree in Manufacturing Sciences and Engineering from Strathclyde University.
He spent 25 years in various engineering and construction project management roles in the UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand, with budgets ranging from AUD1 million to AUD15 billion.
After returning to New Zealand he navigated a massive learning curve to become a farmer. He has a close relationship with the Marlborough wine industry, having worked in it for four years.
Ewan is a highly-skilled technical writer with years of experience to draw on. He loves making complex procedures simple and using as few words as possible. This makes him an enduring mystery to his wife.
